The graceful curves of the cockpit and nosecone are featured in this close-up photo of a Boeing 747SP. These planes were designed with a shorter fuselage which enabled them to fly longer distances, although they had a reduced carrying capacity for passengers. SOFIA is a modified 747SP for the Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA). Photographed in 2022.
